The UAF Writing Center is a campus and community resource that supports writers at every stage of the writing process. More often than not, the best writing does not come out of an isolated writer, composing alone at a desk. Rather, writing is a social process that involves generating ideas, experimenting with text, revising and responding to feedback. Writing is a collaborative process and the UAF Writing Center provides a space for university students and the Fairbanks community to practice that collaboration.
Located in 801 Gruening on the Fairbanks Main Campus, the Writing Center offers tutorials, shared study space, a computer lab, and printing. Our writing tutorials are offered by graduate students in the English Department as well as talented undergraduates who can help at any phase of the writing process, from generating and organizing ideas to fine-tuning. We work across disciplines within the university, reading everything from lab reports and engineering dissertations to persuasive essays and short stories. We collaborate with each writer on a one-to-one basis to explore the choices available to them and the impact of those choices.
